El Paseo Fashion Week 2011

For five nights during the week of March 21st, ten DATA Di students had the special opportunity to shoot the 2011 El Paseo Fashion Week. This annual Coachella Valley event focuses on the fashions of El Paseo, student designs from FIDM, and the television show Project Runway. DATA students were given all access passes by Palm Springs Life magazine's fashion editor, Susan Stein, to shoot alongside professionals at the runway, from the photographers platform, and also backstage.

New for the 2011 year, Di students also photographed the opening night reception sponsored by The Girlfriend Factor, a local professional businesswoman's group, and worked as event volunteers.

A special thank you to

for providing an opportunity for our students!

  1. I didn't get to work in the El Paseo fashion show, but I did volunteer there. I helped seat the guests and dress the models and it was a lot of fun. It was a great experiences getting to see how things work behind the the runway and seeing them go down it. The show was great!

  4. Ushering the El Paseo Fashion week brought back memories of volunteering with students. As I earned my hours for the DATA Google Doc, I felt a longing to volunteer even longer. I am thankful to have had this chance to offer my services to the community.

  5. Although i wasn't there to shoot pictures, I was there ushering the event. This was a really fun even because I had never witnessed a fashion show in real life. Seeing the models walking down the run way and seeing the lighting and music that brought everything to life was really cool. It was very interesting to see what has to go on in order to bring a production like this together.

I really wish I participated in the El Paseo Fashion show because in the future I want to be part of the fashion industry. This would have helped to have more knowledge about the fashion industry working side by side with professionals would have been amazing.

  9. This was a great experience. It was the first time ever taking photos of a runway show. I got to be on the floor, which means i was kneeling on my knees the whole time at the front of the runway strip. I got to get close to the models, taking pictures from a different angles than being in the paparazzi booth. it was a challenge but yet again a great learning experience

  13. What is so great about your work is that no matter who you are shooting, while bringing out style and fashion in your pictures you also allow the model to bring herself out which is unlike many photographers!
