Spring College Tours

This Spring, DATA students visited two Inland Empire colleges.

On April 25th, DATA returned to UC Riverside for a campus tour, a Chicano student panel, and met with two faculty members. Asst. Professor of Computer Science and Engineering,  Tamar Shinar, discussed connections between computer science, art, math, and physics used in interactive 3d graphics, while Assoc. Professor of Media and Cultural Studies, Derek Burrill, presented several student films that addressed the cultural impact of war in video games.

On May 9th, DATA visited Cal State San Bernardino for its first campus tour. After hearing from a student panel who emphasized community service, college internships, and the benefits of living on campus, students met with both the Communication Studies and Visual Arts departments. They began by touring the control room, edit bays, and set of the video lab which produces CSUSB's Local Matters broadcast. Later, they moved on to touring the studios, labs, and classrooms of the visual arts with a special short discussion about the student produced photography magazine, Dotphotozine.

A huge thank you to the following individuals for making these tours happen!
Toni Lawrence, UCR Associate Director of Development
Armalyn De la O, The California Arts Project @ CSUSB

Shooting DigiCom 2012

For the second year in a row, DATA Di photographed Palm Springs Unified School District's DigiCom Student and Teacher Film Festival.

This provided another special opportunity for students to continue learning about shooting event photography which included an awards ceremony and a tethered 'red carpet' location setup with strobes.

All images were made available to students, teachers, and families.
