Chris Miller Workshop

On Monday March 28th (during spring break), 22 Di students attended an off-camera lighting workshop with local professional photographer Chris Miller. Chris, a great friend of the DATA Di program who led the DST Fashion | Energy shoot in early 2010, is known around the Coachella Valley for shooting venues like the Coachella Music and Arts Festival and The Show at Aqua Caliente.

Chris graciously took time out of his busy schedule to work with students and share professional techniques he often uses while shooting music industry talent, fashion editorials, and portraiture.

  1. The Chris Miller Workshop seemed like a great opportunity to learn about lighting unfortunately for me I wasn't able to attend. The work that I saw of the people that did attend was just out standing. I wish we have another opportunity next year to work with Chris Miller because I really want to learn about lighting. If we do have another opportunity to work with them I encourage everyone to try to attend.

  2. This was one of the funnest workshops i've attended. I learned that you don't always have to shoot at the right setting to get an awesome image, shooting at under exposed, but compensating with strobe flashes give an image an awesome intense background, and brings the subjects foreward.

  4. This was a really fun and extremely useful workshop. Since concert photography interests me the most and since his whole workshop basically dealt with lighting and how to best use it, this was very helpful to me. And Chris also takes some absolutely incredible concert pictures, in fact, he took one of my all time favorite concert pictures.

  5. The Chris Miller workshop was an extremely good chance to increase my knowledge in shooting photographs with lighting. The example pictures Chris showed us where outstanding, I was really interested when he showed us how hard flash photography can work out during daytime. I really enjoyed taking pictures of my peers, unfortunately i only took a couple of good photographs.

  7. Working with Chris miller was very interesting, not only did learn about different camera angles but i also learned some great tips about lighting. It was nice being able to get feedback from a professional to improve your skills. It was a great experience and it was really worth coming back to school during spring break for the workshop.

  8. I was not able to be part of the chris miller workshop and I regret that because it looked like a very fun workshop. My classmates got very good pictures and learned a lot of new skills. I hope that the classmates who are going to be here next year don't do the same mistake as me.

  9. This was probably the most fun I've had in a workshop. It helped me out with playing and tweaking the camera settings,, and showed me how much flash can change a picture.
