John Lennon Educational Tour Bus

_______________________________________________

On March 3rd, the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus rolled into the Palm Spring Convention Center for the 2009 Computer Using Educators (CUE) Conference. The bus provided students from Palm Springs Unified School District with the opportunity to record music in a high tech rolling music studio that included professional recording tools.
With the assistance of Apple Development Executive Cheryl Lee, 15 Digital Arts Technology Students from Cathedral City High School received a VIP tour Friday from engineer Erik Niewiarowski. Not only did Niewiarowski provide a complete tour of the state-of-the-art technologies, but he also shared his experiences as a professional musician and technician. Niewiarowski also spoke to DATA students about the importance of continuing their education, working in professional media environments, and developing their passion for digital arts.
Some students, including CCHS musician Devin Riddle spent two days on the bus. "I was on the bus with five other students I had never met before, and just a couple of minutes after walking through the doors, we were creating a musical score that was part of a music video that was shown to hundreds of CUE participants later that night," said Riddle, a DATA student and a member of the marching band and jazz band at Cathedral City High School.

  1. It was really cool to see all that technology and hear how Erik came to work on the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus. I think it's cool that they go around to various cities and let kids tour and create projects on board. It was a great experience for me and it makes me want to try and do something similar to that in my life.

  3. The experience gained by creating a song and music video on the bus opened my eyes to the goals that can be achieved by a few good students with the help of some professionals like Erik and Doug. The process to get a song to the quality of something you would hear on the radio impressed me. With a lot of recording and filming later, our video with the song we made the day before was shown to 100s of people at the C.U.E. Conference. The satisfaction gained from people applauding after the video stunned me, they really approved of what we were doing.

  5. The John Lennon Tour Bus was a unique experience in that it was something that was very different and we all learned something new. The whole tour of the bus involved viewing all of the programs used to record music and shoot videos which is a great thing for all kids today interested in pursuing a career in these fields. I think having a trip like this is really inspiring to kids and really opens their eyes to this field of work and I'm very grateful we got to take this trip.

  8. I feel honored reflecting back on the experience that I shared with the other D.A.T.A. students. A group of several students went several days before the V.I.P. tour of the bus. We helped prepare gift bags for those attending the convention, and it was a remarkable experience seeing the Convention Center transform visually in such a short time.
By taking part in this event, I spoke with several of the representatives who have had the opportunity to live in the tour bus for an amount of time. I was informed of the opportunities given to kids less likely to create music on their own due to economic reasons. The message and cooperation with communities is remarkably positive, and I wouldn't mind taking part of this in the future.

  9. It was a really nice experience to tour the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus. We all enjoyed this because it allowed us to see different, interesting ways to use technology and also the exciting careers that we can pursue. The music video was another aspect of it that I enjoyed. It let students from different schools use their talents to have fun, and make a good song together. The whole experience was good for us as Digital Arts Technology Academy students and as kids who enjoy digital lifestyles.

  10. My experience on the John Lennon Tour Bus was both exciting and interesting. It was astonishing to see the amount of technology that was implemented inside the bus. I enjoyed how the bus not only incorporated music, but several other types of media, allowing anyone on board to truly get the studio experience. Thanks to our tour of the bus, I was able to gain a better understanding of the amount of technology it takes to make digital music and video.

  11. The trip to the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus was an absolutely wonderful experience. We had the opportunity to get an up close look at the regiment and projects that are created on the bus. The representative that spoke to us told us about the many tasks he had accomplished over the long year that he has been working on it, and even showed us the most recent music video he created with a few students from each of the PSUSD high schools. Overall, I would love to be able to return and learn even more about the programs they use, things they create, and maybe even participate in some way one day in the future.

I enjoyed learning about the different equipment they use, especially since I use or have been introduced to them in my media class. Erik's experience was very motivating, showing that if you are serious about a media career, it isn't impossible to do if you have the will.

  14. The experience I had on the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus was great. I learned about artists that have been on the bus and how they made their songs and music videos. I also enjoyed learning about some of the equipment they used to make their productions. I think its a great opportunity for teens that are interested in video and music production because it shows them what it takes to be a producer and inspires them to achieve their goals.
