PSIFF Year Six
On Jan. 13th, 120 DATA students attended the
Palm Springs International Film Festival
's
Student Screening Day
for the sixth year in a row. Two world-class films were shown to a packed house of 1,000+ Coachella Valley high school students, as well as a filmmaker Q&A, and lunch from
Chipotle Mexican Grill
.
Especially interesting this year was the appearance of x-pro snowboarder Kevin Pearce as follow up to the screening of the HBO documentary feature,
The Crash Reel
, a story about his recovery from a traumatic brain injury while training for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The second film selection,
Wadjda
,
from Sony Pictures Classics was equally emotional and inspiring. This film was shot by the first female filmmaker in Saudi Arabia and was the first full-length feature shot in the country.
A huge thank you to the
Palm Springs International Film Society
for their continued support of arts education!
