The 19th annual Fine Arts Creativity Awards and Scholarship Program Exhibition at the Palm Springs Art Museum proved once again to challenge students from 10 Coachella Valley high schools and College of the Desert. In addition to the five DATA students whose work was on display in this highly regarded exhibit, DATA students took home an unprecedented total of $4,500.oo in awards and scholarships.

Leah Oakes$3,000.oo Georgia Fogelson College Scholarship
"Photography is my inspiration. Through photography, I can create a world that mimics reality … or a surreal world made up of my experiences and imagination. Photography allows me to bring my subconscious to the surface and share it with the world. Upon graduation from DATA at CCHS, I will continue to wrap my mind around this creative imaging process as a student at CSU Northridge, where I hope to later become a professional photographer."
Jessica Smith$1,000.oo Georgia Fogelson College Scholarship
$350.oo James Irvine Foundation High School Award for digital photograph triptych, True Identity
"Photography has been my passion since the age of six. I have always enjoyed trying to capture the natural beauty of the people I meet and the places I go. After graduating from the DATA program at CCHS, I hope to earn a degree from CSU Northridge and pursue a career as a professional photographer."
Jaime Villanueva$150.oo Violet Jacobs Award for 3D composite, Conquering the Storm
"Art is my passion. Ever since I could hold a pencil, I would spend many hours drawing, enabling me to shape and sharpen my skills. About four years ago, I began to explore the digital realm. My image, "Conquering the Storm," was modeled and rendered in 3d and composited in Photoshop. Using a computer for art has allowed me to create worlds that I would not have been able to make on paper."
