2010 Digital Fine Arts Creativity

Congratulations to the following students for their work being accepted into the 2010 Fine Arts Creativity and Awards show at the Palm Springs Art Museum.  The theme for this year's exhibition was Blurring Boundaries: Tradition | HD and proved to be challenging for all students who participated.  The professionally judged and curated show required them to explore how traditional arts media has been changed by digital tools.

DATA digital imaging junior Victor Gonzalez's image, Potential Beauty (above), was selected to be shown among professionals from across the country in the 1st annual Earth Through a Lens photography exhibit.  This exhibit, sponsored by the Palm Springs Sustainability Commission, will be displayed in store fronts along Palm Canyon Drive from April 1 - 30, 2010 as part of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.

"I was trying to find the potential beauty of the desert behind the Dream Homes project of Cathedral City.  I live in this neighborhood and see each day how people neglect it and leave their garbage for others to endure".

DATA student Robert Arnold said one of the highlights of the trip was seeing the old and new Batmobile as well as all the props for movies like Norbit, Harry Potter, and Spiderman.'
''We also got to be on the set of Dr. Phil, which is interesting because I watch that show,'' said DATA student Markie Hackwith.

Fashion | Energy Challenge Connects Students to Pros

On Monday Jan. 11, 2010 at DST Studios in North Palm Springs, 25 DATA digital imaging students had the opportunity to work alongside local professionals and DATA alumni on a real world photography shoot surrounding the concept of fashion | energy.

Students worked with photographers, hair and make up stylists, art direction, and DATA teachers all on one of the largest cyclorama sound and photography stages in southern California.  Dick Taylor, the studio manager, shared the history of the studio and how it has been used for Ford Motor Company's west coast advertising and various other productions.

With in the almost 6,000 square foot studio, students were engaged in three tethered-shooting lighting set ups focusing on clothing from Epidemic Skateshop, the 2010 DATA t-shirt, a 2010 Ford Festiva, and painting with light.
