Heavy Metal Pinball Wizard

DATA Di is pleased to announce the first app ever launched by a DATA alum!

Heavy Metal Pinball, created by 2008 grad Bryan O'Neil, is now available in the iTunes store for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod.

Bryan, who worked with his design partner for about 8 weeks, created the game play using the Unity game engine.

As a freshmen, he entered the Academy with an overwhelming desire to become a game designer. He worked diligently in 3d all four years of high school to develop the foundation to make his dreams come true. After leaving CCHS he entered the game design program at the Art Institute of the Inland Empire. He will be graduating this December with hopes of further developing his company, Metal Games, or working for a larger developer in southern California or beyond.

The Golden Rules

At the end of the 2011-12 school year, all students in the Di classroom took an online survey via Google Docs to provide feedback to improve the courses. Part of this was used to create The Golden Rules for our digital imaging classroom using Acrobat.com. The list will later be used as a poster design contest.

In the meantime, it is conveniently accessible on each class wiki along with the CCHS Bell Schedule, the Di Vocab guide (our digital word wall), classroom assignments, a Delicious word cloud, and an embedded Google class calendar.

Students also have access to our other sites; The Di Blog, DAE Ning, the DATA channel on Vimeo, etc.

A Peek into the Di Studio Classroom

In 2011, we posted Preparing the Di Classroom to provide a comparison between what the studio classroom looks like when we walk in the door vs. what it looks like the day school begins. For the 2012-13 school year we're again using 360Panorama, a real-time panorama creation and sharing app for the iPhone, to emphasize the work that goes into the Di workspace two weeks before school begins. A very special thanks to those students who lent a hand!

Welcome to the 2012-13 School Year!

For the past two years, DATA Digital Imaging has been on a mission to reduce the amount of paper used to distribute it's syllabi via the Di blog. In 2010 it was through an embedded Google Doc. In 2011, we switched to issuu.com where we can maintain a Di collection of publications as an online 'bookshelf'. Above you will find the updated syllabus for the 2012-13 school year.

The entire document is reviewed with students the first day of school with only the first and last pages being sent home for households to read, sign, and return. At their convenience, anyone can download and print a complete copy of the 2012-13 Di Course Syllabus or request one in print from Mr. Cauthron.

Make sure to also checkout our Student Creative global collaboration books in print and for the iPad on Blurb.com!
